Take a Break From Your Travels for Some Midland-Style Fun

Just passing through? When making your way through the gorgeous West Texas landscape, Midland is a great stop to stretch your legs, let the little ones burn some energy, and see some fantastic attractions while you’re at it. Midland is a great place to end up for some fresh air and excellent entertainment. Take a break from your travels with some Midland-style fun:

1. Centennial Park

Located in the heart of downtown Midland, Centennial Park is an urban green space and a favorite local gathering spot. Make time to slow down and take a walk on the idyllic great lawn. If your furry friend is traveling with you, bring them along to enjoy the off-leash dog walking area! You’ll also find public restrooms, a splash pad, and a kid’s playground, all nestled in the downtown park.

2. Café at the Gardens

For a unique lunch stop, Café at the Gardens is definitely worth getting off the highway. Located within Alldredge Gardens, you’ll find a relaxing lunch experience with a tropical flair. It feels less like West Texas and more like a hidden tropical oasis with waterfalls, greenery, and menu selections from their award-winning Chef.

3. The Half Acre

For a lunch spot that’s as Midland as it gets, have lunch at this range-to-table lunch spot that’s an extension of Midland Meat Company. Stop by this gem for excellent cuts from cattle straight from Scharbauer Ranch. Expect top-notch wings, ribs, Wagyu burgers, tacos, and mouth-watering sides to mix and match.

4. I-20 Wildlife Preserve

Stop for a gorgeous walk on the 3.4-mile trail system at I-20 Wildlife Preserve. There’s also a 1.45-mile ADA-accessible trail loop and beautiful scenery to break up a road trip. Get a different point of view atop the 24ft. Hawk Observation Tower and enjoy the flora and fauna of this urban playa just North of Interstate 20.

5. Bush Family Home

History buffs will feel like true time travelers with a stop at the Bush Family Home. Nearly frozen in time, George W. Bush’s childhood home will take you back to the 50s with vintage decor, toys, and artifacts related to the Bush Family. Take a tour and see the stomping grounds of two presidents, two governors, a first lady, an ambassador, and a CIA director.

6. The Destination Midland

For a lively atmosphere and live music set, Destination Midland has a rustic patio and live music that will get you off your feet and dancing through the evening. The Destination has five themed areas they refer to as “skids”—each with a unique vibe and character.

If you’re passing through West Texas, Midland is a great place to stop to break up the monotony of a long drive. With loads of history, nature trails, great food, and a welcoming spirit – we’d hate for you to drive past us.
