If you haven’t been to downtown Midland in a while, it’s time to check it out. Visit the Micro Market, an array of tiny shops with brightly colored doors that provide a fun twist on downtown shopping. Enjoy an ice cream shop, soda fountain, coffee house, florist, boutiques and more! The kids will enjoy Centennial Park complete with a splash pad, children’s play area and great lawn. There’s cornhole and games to keep the fun coming!
Susie’s South Forty Confections is fun for all ages! Stop by the Marienfeld St. location for tours of the factory and a giftshop with free samples. Did you know Susie’s South Forty Confections is home to the Guinness™ World Record for the largest piece of toffee? Check out the giant Texas shaped frame that housed the toffee while you are there.
For a truly nostalgic atmosphere, pack up the car and head over to Big Sky Drive In. With two movies showing each night beginning at dark, the whole family is sure to enjoy the evening. Don’t forget to load up on food while you are there. Big Sky Drive In has everything from pizza and nachos to chicken wings and, of course, popcorn!
Looking for an educational, yet fun, afternoon with the family? Check out one of Midland’s fantastic museums and libraries. A visit to the Petroleum Museum can fill up your entire day! Interested in learning about the West Texas cowboy? Stop by the Haley Library & History Center and check out artifacts, sculptures, and view the first bell that hung at the Alamo. The story of how it ended up in Midland is sure to surprise you. Adjacent to the Haley Library & History Center is the Museum of the Southwest. Enjoy the Turner Mansion art gallery, state of the art planetarium, and in the near future, a completely renovated children’s museum. The George W. Bush Childhood Home is a Midland classic. Stop by the home of two presidents, two governors, first lady, ambassador, and a CIA director. The Midland County Historical Museum is a great place to brush up on local history.
