Midland, Texas: A Sporting Paradise

With frequent sunny days and a local passion for sports, Midland’s athletic facilities are the perfect place to host a tournament, travel to with a team, or spectate like it’s your job. Discover the many sporting facilities in the Midland area!

America’s Pastime and More

The beautiful Scharbauer Sports Complex is bigger than you might expect in a city of Midland’s size. Its proximity between Dallas and El Paso and the center of the Texas oil industry make for an ideal location. Midland’s International Air & Space Port serves as an added advantage for athletes on the go, amplifying the convenience and allure of hosting tournaments compared to larger urban settings.

Nested within the Scharbauer Complex, you’ll discover the impressive Astound Broadband Stadium and the Momentum Bank Ballpark, providing a home for the Rock Hounds, Midland’s own minor league baseball team. The complex is regularly filled with devoted hometown fans and visitors cheering on their beloved teams.

Midland College’s Christensen Stadium also attracts local fans for the Chapparal baseball games. Its smaller size and green paint give a nostalgic feel, and it offers a satellite field for tournaments held at Scharbauer or an alternative space for smaller games and events.

Presidential-Quality Sporting

Bush Tennis Center is another impressively large facility, and along with Midland’s perfect tennis weather providing low humidity and sunny skies, it’s no wonder that there are more than 400 regular members. It is also a great tennis destination for visitors wanting to participate in one of the year-round events or for someone wanting to drop in for a set while traveling. The tennis center has grown over the years and has become one of the most impressive tennis facilities in the nation.

Likewise, the Hogan Park Golf Course can accommodate recreational players as well as their competitive or professional counterparts. Eighteen holes over rolling hills, featuring lush greenery and unique water hazards, provide a memorable experience for all levels of golf. Its location near downtown and plenty of lodging make it a great place for hosting out-of-town players.

Olympic-Sized Facilities

COM Aquatics contains a natatorium with Olympic-sized pools and world-class diving facilities. It is an excellent training facility and venue for swimming and diving meets. There are multiple pools designed for therapy, swim lessons, and all kinds of aquatic fun. Like the Bush Tennis Center, the COM started as a modest local sporting facility for Midland residents but has grown and developed into an elite event space that can rival any of the modern natatoriums in the world.

Midland County Horseshoe Arena, Pavilion & Amphitheater is a West Texas center for entertainment that has Texas roots running deep. Events spanning from dog shows to monster truck wars are hosted here, as well as outdoor concerts and rodeos. If you’re planning a conference or organizing a trade show, the Horseshoe can provide both indoor and outdoor spaces to gather in.

Reyes-Mashburn-Nelms Park is a 63-acre neighborhood park that hosts soccer and baseball games, with concessions on-site to treat the spectators. Less traditional sports venues, like an in-line hockey rink and a disc golf course, cater to sports enthusiasts who want to try something new. Reyes-Mashburn-Nelms also has all the features of a neighborhood park, like picnic tables, grills, and playground equipment for the kids.

No matter what kind of sports you enjoy, whether you are on the court or in the stands, Midland, Texas, has a place for you to get your game on. Find out more about Midland’s state-of-the-art facilities here!
