Midland – National rankings, based on ticket sales, have been announced by leading industry publications Venues Today and PollStar Magazine. For 2014, the Wagner Noël Performing Arts Center in Midland, Texas is sitting at number four in the U.S. for venues with 2000 seats or fewer (Venues Today Magazine), and number 66 worldwide on the list of Top 200 Theatre Venues (PollStar Magazine).
“2014 has been a great year,” said Wagner Noël Performing Arts Center General Manager Ty Sutton. “These rankings really speak to how supported the venue is by its communities and also how excited performers are to make a stop in West Texas.”
Performers have included Tony Bennett, Trisha Yearwood, George Lopez, Chris Tucker, Ron White, Clint Black, Santana, Steve Martin and a walk‐on, surprise performance by Paul Simon. Some of the biggest names in entertainment have performed to a West Texas audience in 2014. Here’s how the numbers break down: 128 main stage performances and 29 sold out shows. That equals 127 thousand patrons who have walked through the venue doors this year.
“It’s great to know that so many people are enjoying the venue but we are still a very young venue and many people haven’t had the chance to experience it for themselves,” said Sutton. The Wagner Noël Performing Arts Center is centered around bringing a variety of entertainment opportunities for the entire community. While big name artists garner great attention there have been many notable artistic performances by Ballet Arkansas, The National Acrobats of the People’s Republic of China, Shaping Sound, and A Christmas Carol.
Upcoming events at the Wagner Noël Performing Arts Center include Chubby Checker, the West Texas Guitar Festival, Loretta Lynn, Diana Ross, 2Cellos and Jerry Seinfeld, to name a few. A full listing can be found at wagnernoel.com.
