Enjoy FREE Programs and Events All Summer Long!

Midland, Texas — Summer is in full swing at the Museum of the Southwest with Free Admission Sundays, ten weeks of free concerts, eight Fridays with family crafts and fun activities, three SciFriday movie nights and a public Open Campus Night.  Check out the full schedule at the end of the press release

Sundays at the Museum of the Southwest are now FREE thanks to Cimarex Energy Co!  The public is welcome to explore the Museum Campus during normal Sunday hours, which run from 2 to 5 p.m.

The 27th season of the Summer Sunday Lawn Concerts kicked off on Sunday, June 1 and will continue through Sunday, August 10 (excluding Sunday, July 6). The Lawn Concerts take place from 7:30 to 9 p.m. and are free thanks to the bands, sponsors and underwriters who make each concert possible.   Guests are welcome to bring a chair or blanket and refreshments, but concerts are crowded so come early to claim their spot.  Jimmy’s Italian Ice and Cane d’Oro Pizza will also be on site.

Family Fridays are a time to gather up the whole crew to enjoy educational, fun activities based on themes to foster creativity and a love of learning.  Designed for children ages 4 through 12, sessions are “come and go” and held in the Brown Science Center at the Blakemore Planetarium from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  They are free with paid admission to the Museum of the Southwest Campus.  Dome shows will also be free on these days (with paid admission).  Family Fridays are made possible by Mr. and Mrs. James Blakemore.

For those who enjoy science fiction, the Museum of the Southwest will offer three “SciFriday” films in the Blakemore Planetarium dome.   The three‐film series has a time‐ travel theme and some age restrictions apply based on movie ratings.  Guests of all ages will also enjoy a snack bar, and those 21 years and older may enjoy beer and wine during the show.

The Open Campus Night on Friday, June 20 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. will feature the exclusive opening of three new exhibitions: West Texas Triangle 2014’s Ken Little, Our People, Our Land, Our Images and Edward Curtis in the Southwest.  Families can play Galactic Golf in the Durham Children’s Museum and meet the exhibition’s contributing artist, Sara Drescher‐ Braswell and enjoy free dome shows.  At the end of the night, the kick‐off of the popular summer program “SciFriday” makes this an exciting night for all ages.  Open Campus Nights are free for everyone.
