celebrating Midland College’s 40th anniversary
Labor Day Weekend
Saturday, September 1
Al G. Langford Chaparral Center on the Midland College campus
Midland College (MC) President Dr. Steve Thomas invites the public to celebrate MC’s 40th anniversary and enjoy Grammy Award‐winner Lyle Lovett when he performs at a FREE concert on Saturday, September 1.
Lovett has recorded thirteen albums and released 21 singles to date, including his highest entry, the number 10 hit on the U. S. Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, “Cowboy Man.” He has won four Grammy Awards including Best Male Country Vocal Performance and Best Country Album. Lovett’s September 1 performance is an added performance of the Phyllis & Bob Cowan Performing Arts Series and is intended to be a community celebration of Midland College’s 40th anniversary.
Dr. Thomas explained, “Midland College has enjoyed 40 wonderful years of being Midland’s community college. We can’t think of a better way to commemorate our tremendous success than to enjoy a great concert and celebrate with the Midland community—the people who helped to make MC one of the best community colleges in the nation!”

About the Phyllis & Bob Cowan Performing Arts Series
In 1999, Phyllis and Bob Cowan announced a gift to the Midland College Foundation to endow a performing arts series that would bring at least two of the finest available professional performing arts events to Midland College each year. Since then, The Phyllis & Bob Cowan Performing Arts Series has presented a total of 24 FREE cultural and artistic performances of international interest and scope, providing enjoyment and inspiration to the entire Midland community. In establishing the Phyllis & Bob Cowan Performing Arts Series, the Cowans acknowledged, “We wanted further to support Midland’s performing arts in a significant way. Midland has been very good to us, and we wanted to do something meaningful for the community in return . . . we acknowledge that we are stewards of God’s property, and it is only by His blessing that these funds are available to make this gift.”
